| Trainees are in their 20s, and have graduated from a high school or equivalent institution. The Vietnam, the Thai and the Indonesian Government select outstanding young people who are judged able to complete three years' Training Program and Technical Intern Training Program in Japan. In order to select such people, the following tests are conducted. |

Ability test |
A paper exam, which tests candidates' basic
intelligence, independence, and aptitude for training |

Physical test |
Candidates must complete a three-kilometer
run within 15 minutes, do no less than 35 push-ups,and
25 sit-ups. |

Interview |
Weight is placed on candidates' enthusiasm, including their objectives
for participating in the training program, their knowledge regarding Japan,
and plans after returning to Vietnam, Thailand AND Indonesia. |

Medical test |
All candidates are required to undergo
a medical test, and those diagnosed with illnesses that
would render them incapable of continuing with their training
are ineligible to partake in the program. |

In order to ensure that technical interns are not disadvantaged after arriving
in Japan, both in the program and in their everyday lives in Japan, they
undergo four months of instruction in the Japanese language, Japanese culture
and customs, as well as physical education, and discipline. |

 Off-the-job training at the IM Japan Training Center
After arriving in Japan, technical interns take part in four weeks of off-the-job training at the IM Japan Training Center and elsewhere. This serves to round off the pre-departure training program conducted in Vietnam, Thailand AND Indonesia. |
